GRETCHEN M. BATAILLE
On August 14, 2006, Gretchen M. Bataille made history when she became the University of North Texas' first female president. She continues to make history as its 14th president. Prior to her UNT presidency, Dr. Bataille served for six years as Senior Vice President for the University of North Carolina system and also served as Interim Chancellor of the North Carolina School of the Arts in her final year.
Dr. Bataille also is a noted scholar in the field of Native American literature and Indians in film and is the author or editor of more than a dozen books.
Dr. Bataille has served as a trustee of The College Board and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the American Council on Education and on the Board of Directors of SAGE, one of the leading international academic presses. She also serves on the City of Denton Economic Development Partnership Board and the DATCU Credit Union Board. Dr. Bataille earned her D.A. in English from Drake University and holds an M.A. in Education and a B.S. in English, both from California Polytechnic State University.
